This note is short: I remember a case where the state was preparing to go to trial on a couple that unfortunately, could not beat their meth addiction. The couple was also homeless therefore, the intention was to permanently place the children with a stable family member.
Whole the attorneys argued over why the children should, or should not, return to the homeless life with meth addicts, the judge interrupted everyone with this frustrated statement:
"I am thinking of this song that goes... Almost Heaven, West Virginia... But I can't think of who sang it! If ya'll can tell me who sang it Ill GIVE you your kids back!"
Of course, I knew it was John Denver but noone else could figure it out. I kept my mouth shut. In disbelief over the possible consequence of the judge's statement, I reported it to the direct supervisor and now Regional Director for CPS.
They did nothing...
